Technology Assessment

Provides an assessment of the existing deployed technologies with recommendations in terms of cost reduction and/or enhancement to better align service delivery with the articulated strategies.

The technology assessment typically takes one of three forms:
  • If a technology articulation activity has been completed, the assessment can review the appropriateness of the current technologies against those required by the assessment. Once the review is completed, recommendations can be made in terms of enhancements or other changes.
  • A review of existing technology can be made directly against the best practices. The typical purpose for this kind of review is to identify whether a make/buy decision should be considered. That is, whether buying a solution (or a portion of a solution) would be a better route than enhancing the existing solution.
  • A “directed review” can be performed for portions of an existing technology infrastructure to identify ways to improve efficiency, performance, and/or capability. For example, if the articulated strategies indicate a need to perform more targeted bonusing, what kinds of changes should be implemented to allow this to be performed more quickly and cost effectively.
Assuming the technology assessment indicates the potential of a “buy” option, the next step in the process would be RFI/RFP preparation.
